The EIP Programme provides the following services
1. Individual Support: If you are offered support by the ZimEIP team you should expect an assigned support worker or ‘Case Manager’ who will help you in various ways so that you build your life back up again. This can be in the form of education on psychosis, counselling or therapy services. You will also be offered appointments to see a doctor for medical assessments to determine what medical assistance you may require. Your Case Manger will also help you with understanding why you must adhere to your medication if you will be taking any. He/she will ensure that what is necessary for your recovery is made available to you. Throughout this journey from your initial assessment to recovery, your Case Manager/Support Worker will be there to assist you and your family and will always have your best interest at heart.
2. Family and Group Support: The treatment of psychosis is much more effective when a person's support network is involved. Because of this, ZimEIP works with your family and other support networks to aid your recovery. Your support network can include your family, friends or other groups you may belong to. This support network, especially your family will help you in coming up with treatment and rehabilitation goals and relapse prevention plans. You are free to determine who should make up your support network and your Case Manager will help you with this.
3. Health Promotion Activities: As we seek to reduce the stigma attached to psychosis and mental health conditions in general, ZimEIP conducts Health Promotion Activities or Awareness raising in communities and schools. These activities target the general public, Government offices, Traditional Leaders, Churches and every other social gathering or institution. In partnership with River of Life Projects, Zimnamh and other mental health stakeholders, the ZimEIP Programme does not work in isolation but enjoys a close working relation with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
4. Training and Capacity Building of Health Service Providers: As part of the ZimEIP programme's efforts to make mental health services accessible to all in the community, a training programme has been initiated to equip Community and Village Health Workers, local clinic Nurses and other personnel with the necessary skills to detect, manage and support persons with psychosis within their communities in Zimbabwe.
